Difference Between cd .. And cd\ Or cd / Command

MS-DOS and Windows command line users:-

When typing the cd.. or cd .. command this moves the directory back one directory also known as theparent directory. As seen in the below example, if you're in the \Windows\System32 directory using the cd.. command takes you back to the Windows directory.

C:\Windows\System32>cd..

C:\Windows>

The cd\ command takes you back to the root directory of the current drive. As can be seen in the below example, if we were in the same \Windows\System32 directory and typed the cd\ command it would take you to the C:\ directory.

C:\Windows\System32>cd\

C:\>

Linux and Unix users:-

When typing the cd .. command (need to have a space between cd and ..) this moves the directory back one directory also known as the parent directory. As seen in the below example, if you're in the /public_html/cgi-bin directory using the cd.. command takes you back to the public_html directory.

 [~/public_html/cgi-bin]# cd ..

 [~/public_html]#

The cd / command takes you back to the root directory of the current drive. As can be seen in the below example, if we were in the same /public_html/cgi-bin directory and typed the cd / command it would take
you to the / directory.

[~/public_html/cgi-bin]# cd /

[/]#

How to browse the Windows Registry:-

When most users need to edit their Registry they're given the location or path of where the Registry value is contained and what to change. In the below example, is an example path of a commonly accessed Registry subkey. To browse to this location you first start by opening the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE key (folder). Once in this key you should see the SOFTWARE folder and within this key contains the remainder keys listed below.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
Once in the above path you'll have a window similar to the below example. In the below example, you can see four different string value keys, which in this case are pointing to each of the programs Windows runs each time this computer starts.

How to edit a Windows Registry value:-

To edit a value, double-click the name of the value you wish to edit. For example, if we were to double-click the 'IntelliPoint' Name a new window would appear that would allow us to change the value of the Data. In this example, we could change the location of where the file is located for the IntelliPoint driver.

How do I delete a Windows Registry value:-

To delete a value highlight any Registry Name and then press the delete key on the keyboard. For example, if we did not want the IntelliPoint to load each time Windows starts we could highlight IntelliPoint and then press the delete key.
